INTRODUCTION OF US
Nkul Beti Chicago: Bringing Cameroonian diaspora and sympathizer together.
Nkul Beti Chicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that brings together the Beti people in the diaspora and their sympathizers in the Chicagoland area. It was founded to address the growing need for a cohesive space where the Cameroonian diaspora in Illinois could come together to preserve their shared heritage while building meaningful relationships in their adopted home. From humble beginnings as a small gathering of like-minded individuals, we have grown into a dynamic organization hosting cultural events, educational initiatives, and support programs that strengthen our community ties and impact lives.
Mission
Nkul Beti Chicago is committed to uniting and empowering the Cameroonian diaspora in Illinois by preserving Beti culture, fostering community connections, and promoting social and economic growth. Through cultural events, educational initiatives, and mutual support, we create a welcoming space where tradition meets opportunity, ensuring that our heritage thrives while uplifting the lives of our members and the broader community.
Vision
To be a leading force in preserving and promoting Beti heritage while fostering a strong, inclusive, and empowered community. We envision a future where the Cameroonian diaspora in Chicago and beyond thrives—deeply connected to its roots, actively engaged in cultural exchange, and continuously creating opportunities for generations to come.
Our History
Nkul Beti Chicago was born out of a deep desire to reconnect with our cultural roots and build a strong, supportive community. In 2017, a group of eight Beti individuals gathered on the north side of Chicago at the home of one of the founding members. On June 17, 2017, they laid the foundation for what would become a thriving organization dedicated to preserving Beti heritage and fostering unity among the Cameroonian diaspora.
Through dedication and vision, Nkul Beti quickly grew beyond its early meetings. The organization formally established its structure, elected its first leadership team, and set ambitious goals to celebrate and promote Beti culture. From the very beginning, Nkul Beti made history as the first Cameroonian organization to participate in the Festival of Culture in Skokie, IL, showcasing the richness of our traditions to a wider audience.
We have continued to expand our reach with annual barbecues, inviting the greater Cameroonian community to celebrate with us, and by supporting members in times of need—physically, emotionally, and financially. Our cultural events, social initiatives, and commitment to community service have strengthened our bonds and reinforced our mission.
